Little Harbour Hospice Boosted By Vertu Honda Truro Wish Tree
Children at Little Harbour Hospice in Cornwall have been given reason to cheer after the local community came together to donate a wide range of gifts through a ‘Wish Tree’ organised by the team at Vertu Honda Truro.
The dealership, which is located just off the A39 in Trispen, is one of three Honda dealerships in the Southwest to be acquired by Vertu back in 2023 as the award-winning automotive retailer expanded its footprint in the region.
Colleagues at Vertu Honda Truro elected to join forces with Children’s Hospice Southwest (CHSW) to collect gifts for Little Harbour, which has offered a home-from-home environment for young people dealing with life-limiting conditions, and their families, since opening its doors in St Austell in 2011.
That made it the third site operated by CHSW in the Southwest alongside Little Bridge House near Barnstaple, and Charlton Farm close to Bristol.
Vertu Honda Truro invited the local community to visit the dealership and collect a tag from the Wish Tree, each of which represented a gift wish from someone at the hospice.
Colleagues, customers and the wider community came together to not only grant wishes, but also to collect additional items to help both the children being cared for by the hospice as well as their families.
Gifts ranged from toys to toiletries and included some donated by visitors from nearby Sophie’s Den Childcare, who took a special bus trip to the dealership to collect their tags before returning to deliver they gifts they had purchased.
The gifts were then loaded into a new Honda ZR-V before being handed to Little Harbour, where they were distributed to the children and their families.
Andrew Niven, General Manager at Vertu Honda, commented: “We have to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in our Wish Tree in support of Little Harbour Hospice.
“To receive so many donations shows how important the hospice is to the local area, and how well it is regarded by the Cornish community.
“I’m proud that we have been able to help spread some cheer to the brave young people, and their families, who are benefitting from the amazing work that Little Harbour carries out on a daily basis.”
Amanda Masters, CHSW Area Fundraiser for Truro and West Cornwall, said: “We’re hugely grateful to the team at Vertu Honda Truro for their efforts in collecting gifts for Little Harbour Hospice.
“The generosity of the local community was amazing, and it has made a real difference to our children and their families.”
Chris Taylor, Group Operations Director at Vertu Motors added: “We are very proud to represent Honda in the Southwest region with locations in Truro, Plymouth and Exeter.
“Our teams are all local to the area and being able to support CHSW and seeing the positive impact Little Harbour Hospice makes in people’s lives is something we are pleased to support.”
