Farnell Land Rover Bury is celebrating one of its colleagues

Steve Harvey, 70, from Bury, has worked at the Bury retailer since leaving school in 1963, and has seen a variety of brand changes, refurbishments and owners.

With more than half a century’s worth of experience in the motor retail industry, Steve has worked in several roles, including mechanic, workshop foreman and workshop controller. Steve now works with a new team in the retailer, as a sales progressor.

Robert Forrester, CEO of Vertu Motors plc, which operates the Farnell brand, presented Steve with a commemorative plaque at a long-service celebration, held at Jesmond Dene House in Newcastle. Colleagues with service ranging from 20 to 40 years, joined Steve at the event.

Robert said: “The long-service lunch celebrates experience, and we had more than 310 years of it in the room. It was great to recognise some fantastic individuals who have given so much to our Group and the previous owners of the dealerships.

“I was amazed to see Steve’s apprenticeship form, from when he joined the dealership in 1963, and also a letter from 1973 promoting him to workshop foreman. He has a great history, has shown extreme dedication and I would like to wish him well in the years to come.”

James Boyd, head of business at Farnell Land Rover Bury, added: “I have only worked with Steve since July 2017 but he has made a huge impact on my career in such a short space of time. He displays loyalty, passion and commitment and is a huge inspiration for both myself and the rest of the team. The way Steve conducts himself within our business is extremely motivational and is a great example not only for the new starters in the business, but the existing team and Farnell division. Steve is so important to our business, he is a model colleague. Thank you Steve for your continuous service and congratulations on your achievement, I hope you are as proud as we are of you.”

Steve said: “Things were very different when I first started my career but I have enjoyed every change that has come with the industry. I have worked with and met some fantastic people, including customers who have over time turned into friends, and I am glad to mark my 55th year with the Farnell Land Rover Bury team.”
