Mansfield Technician Named As One Of Hyundai's Best At Skills Olympics
Jake Taylor, a Master Technician at Vertu Hyundai Mansfield, has secured second place in the prestigious Hyundai UK Skills Olympics – placing him among the very best technicians in the country.
The result marks a significant achievement for Jake and his colleagues, and highlights the calibre of expertise operating within the region’s automotive sector.
The Hyundai Skills Olympics is a highly competitive programme designed to test the technical proficiency, diagnostic ability and product knowledge of technicians from across the UK network.
Participants progress through multiple stages, facing rigorous real-world challenges that reflect the evolving complexity of modern vehicle technology.
It has become a cornerstone of the brand’s investment in aftersales quality, ensuring technicians are equipped to maintain increasingly advanced vehicles, including hybrid and electric models.
Competitors are assessed on their ability to identify complex faults swiftly, apply manufacturer procedures accurately and deliver consistent workmanship under strict time constraints.
Only the most capable technicians reach the final stages, where speed, precision and methodical problem-solving are scrutinised under pressure.
Jake Taylor said: “The competition was incredibly tough, so to be placed second is something I’m really proud of - the standard of everyone taking part was exceptional.
“It was an amazing experience and I’m grateful for the opportunity to push myself like that. I’ve learned a huge amount from taking part that I can bring back to the workshop in Mansfield.”
Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu, said: “Jake’s performance speaks volumes about his dedication and the standards we aim to achieve for customers.
“The Skills Olympics is not just about technical ability – it’s about discipline, consistency and delivering excellence, which is what we aim to do as a company every day. Jake embodies all of that, and this result is thoroughly deserved.”
