Plc Finance Boss To Walk 100km In Two Days To Support Macmillan Cancer Support

Karen Anderson, the Chief Financial Officer at the UK’s largest quoted motor retailer Vertu Motors plc, is set to walk 100km along the Thames to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan Cancer Support is a cause especially close to Karen’s heart, after her own diagnosis of malignant melanoma. Fortunately, her cancer was discovered early and successfully treated but the experience made her acutely aware that many others are not as fortunate.

That close brush inspired her to help raise money for the charity which helps thousands of people with cancer, as well as supporting their families. She has undertaken a number of epic walking challenges, including several Northumberland Mighty Hikes, often supported by colleagues from Vertu.

Karen will be walking along the Thames Path route from Putney to Henley over two days, targeting 50km a day.

She has been training to complete the distance in such a short time frame, recently hitting her 50km target in just under nine hours, giving her the confidence to take on the challenge.

Karen said: “I wanted to take on something that would push me physically and mentally, while also supporting a cause that means a great deal to me. Macmillan’s work is vital, and I hope this walk helps them continue making a real difference.

“A few weeks ago I struggled through 30km and genuinely thought I might have to give up. But now I feel like I can do this - hopefully!

Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu, praised Karen’s determination: “Karen’s drive and resilience are remarkable. Taking on 100km in two days is no small feat, and her determination to continue her fundraising for Macmillan speaks volumes about her character. We’re all behind her.”
