Vertu Primary Schools Cup Champions Crowned At St. Andrew's

The first winners of the Vertu Primary Schools Cup have been crowned after the inaugural ‘Finals Day’ was held at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park; the home ground of Birmingham City FC.

Vertu, one of the largest automotive retailers in the UK, joined forces with the Club in a strategic partnership earlier this season, with the Vertu Primary Schools Cup having a played a key role in helping to engage with local communities.

Thousands of pupils from schools across Birmingham and the West Midlands took part in the competition, with a series of qualifying rounds taking place at the Knighthead Performance Centre at Wast Hills for both mixed and all girls’ teams.

In total, eight mixed teams and eight girls’ teams earned the opportunity to play at the famous St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park ground, a matter of weeks after Birmingham City FC had confirmed promotion to the EFL Championship as winners of League One.

The girls’ competition included St. John’s Middle School Academy from Bromsgrove, who earned their Cup title thanks to a 1-0 victory over Kings Norton Primary School in the final.

Amongst the mixed teams, the battle to secure top honours would go all the way to penalties before Our Lady of The Wayside from Solihull emerged victorious against Smith’s Wood Primary Academy.

Every child who competed in the 2025 Vertu Primary Schools Cup was provided with a special Vertu shirt and was given the opportunity to play at the Knighthead Performance Centre, where current England international Jude Bellingham trained during his formative years.

The teams who made it to Finals Day were all provided with a new, Vertu-branded Nike kit and were given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play on Birmingham City FC’s home pitch.

Robert Forrester, Chief Executive of Vertu, said: “The Vertu Primary Schools Cup has been a resounding success and it is fantastic that we have been able to work alongside the Birmingham City Foundation to provide so many children across the West Midlands with the opportunity to take part.

“A huge congratulations to every single team that has taken part in the competition, and particularly to the two winning teams following their victories at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.”

Lee Chapman, Schools Manager for the Birmingham City Foundation, said: “This tournament has been such a huge work-high for us all! Seeing the excitement at the qualifiers at the Knighthead Performance Centre was very special, but witnessing the final at St. Andrew’s was so fulfilling.

“The talent has been exceptional, as has the coaching from the school staff. We have two worthy champions, and we are already thinking about how we can expand it next year!”

Applications for teams who wish to take part in the Vertu Primary Schools Cup competition in 2026 have already opened.
