Vertu Primary Schools Cup Scores Award Recognition
The Vertu Primary Schools Cup has been recognised for its efforts in boosting inclusion in grassroots football at the inaugural Global Football Awards.
The competition, launched as a collaboration between the award-winning automotive retailer and Birmingham City FC, was nominated for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Award at the event having earned a spot on the shortlist alongside the likes of Sky Sports, Amazon and The Premier League.
During the event, hosted by former England internationals Jamie Carragher and Peter Crouch, the Vertu Primary Schools Cup was ‘Highly Commended’ for the work carried out to give children access to the game.
Hundreds of children from diverse communities took part in the competition, which was open to both mixed and girls teams, with the finals being held on the pitch at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park as part of Blues Fest, an annual event held by Birmingham City at the end of the season.
St. John’s Middle School Academy from Bromsgrove lifted the title in the girls’ competition, with Our Lady of The Wayside from Solihull emerging on top amongst the mixed teams.
