BMW Sunderland Joins Forces With George Washington Golf Club For Charity Drive
Vertu BMW Sunderland has helped George Washington Golf Club raise more than £15,000 for charity after supporting two special events at the course.
The dealership, located on Boldon Business Park, assisted with two separate charitable golf days, one raising funds for Pathways 4 All and the other supporting Prostate Cancer UK.
Pathways 4 All is a North East-based charity founded to help provide leisure facilities for disabled children and young people, and operates the Tim Lamb Centre in Benton.
The centre is home to a range of activities geared towards accessible play, and also runs family support programmes alongside offering alternative provision mainstream education to learners.
Although initially focused on Tyne & Wear, Northumberland and County Durham, Pathways 4 All now supports families from further afield across Teesside and into Cumbria.
As part of the annual Pathways 4 All Golf Day, Vertu BMW Sunderland worked with the club to provide two models for display at the event, including a BMW iX3, which was used as the prize in a closest to the pin competition – with one lucky winner securing weekend use of the award-winning EV.
With the event raising just shy of £11,500 for the charity, the club then reached out for help with another golf day being organised by a member to support Prostate Cancer UK in honour of his grandfather and brother.
Two cars were again provided, with the winner of the closest to the pin competition this time winning a weekend at the wheel of a BMW M2, whilst a raft of BMW and MINI related prizes were also donated to a raffle held on the day – with the event raising in excess of £3,000.

Stephen Robson, Assistant Service Manager at Vertu BMW Sunderland, said: “As a member at the club, I’ve seen first-hand the work it does for charity, so I reached out to see how we could get involved.
“The Pathways 4 All event was fantastic, with a number of famous faces involved, including former England cricketer Steve Harmison, and raised a brilliant amount for a charity that works hard to support families across the North East and beyond.
“On the back of that success, we were asked to help with the Prostate Cancer UK event and were delighted to get involved, particularly as the charity is close to the heart of a number of people in the dealership. It was extra special to see the winner of the closest to the pin competition find out he had won weekend use of the M2, as he only expected to win a few golf balls!
“Getting involved in these events has been a brilliant way to not only support the local community, but also to help two charities in their excellent work.”
Brian Brodie, Golf Operations Manager at George Washington Golf Club, said: “We’re delighted to have teamed up with Vertu BMW Sunderland for these two events, and their support has helped to raise a fantastic amount for charity.
“When Stephen approached us to see how Vertu BMW Sunderland could get involved with some of our charitable work it came at the perfect time, with the two golf days already in our calendar.
“It was fantastic to be able to join forces to offer the weekend loan of a car for both events, which have helped to raise money for two important charities. Hopefully we can work with the team at the dealership again on events like this in the future.”
